It is a pond you swim in, filtered by biology rather than a chemical schedule.
A standard build with us starts at $85,000 and takes roughly three weeks.
For that, you get a 25 by 25 foot swimming pond at 4 feet deep on a 45 mil EPDM liner, a 2-foot cascading waterfall through a 6-foot stream, a wetland biofiltration system built around a 4 by 8 filter with a Snorkel Vault, Centipede and AquaBlox, and two Signature Series 1000 skimmers running AquaSurge variable-speed pumps.
Then the parts you actually touch.
Flagstone flooring, two seating benches, six natural stone treads for getting in and out, a 12-inch natural boulder retaining wall, ten underwater LED lights, three spotlights on the waterfalls, aquatic plants, beneficial bacteria, and an owner’s manual.
A larger swimming area with multi-tiered waterfalls, rock bridges, and a viewing patio starts around $120,000 and takes four to six weeks; a fully custom design with pavilions and imported limestone starts at $175,000.
Our Alamo recreation swim pond took six weeks to complete.
The backyard was mostly dirt, with a mound that needed a purpose, and the homeowners knew they wanted a pool or water feature, but they didn’t know how to integrate it with the pavilion going up at the same time.
So we engineered the interface between the pavilion’s footing and the pond first, before anything got dug.
When Bill asked what we would do if it were our pond, the answer was Missouri limestone, so we traveled there to hand-select boulders with the crevices we wanted, some weighing several tons.
Then excavation, and the wetland filtration underneath it all: underlayment, liner, Aqua blocks, and three layers of specialized materials.
We set the limestone with a large excavator and built the pondless waterfall beneath the rock bridge.
How a Swim Pond Stays Clean and Clear Without Chemicals
Plants, gravel, and bacteria do the job chlorine does in a pool, and none of it happens in the part you swim in.
The biology lives in a dedicated wetland filter, a 4-by-8 unit built around a Snorkel Vault, a Centipede, and AquaBlox, with water moving through it constantly.
Two Signature Series 1000 skimmers pull floating debris off the surface before it sinks and rots, and the AquaSurge variable-speed pumps keep everything circulating.
Beneficial bacteria break down the nutrients algae would otherwise eat, and they colonize the gravel and filter media, so they need water moving past them to stay alive.
Aquatic plants pull nutrients out on the other end, which is why the planting is filtration and not garnish.
We also aim to keep 30 to 40 percent of the surface shaded, because shade holds the water temperature down and gives algae less to work with.
Your side of it is short.
Clear the skimmer basket, add beneficial bacteria weekly, trim plants, and schedule an annual cleanout.
Want less than that, and an IonGen G2 handles algae with copper ions while an auto-doser adds the bacteria for you.
What Swimming in a Natural Pond Really Feels Like
Think of any popular natural lake you have swum in, then make it cleaner and clearer.
That’s the honest version.
If you have swum in a lake, you have already swum in a dirtier version of what could be sitting in your backyard.
The difference you notice first is what is not there.
Traditional pools rely on chemicals that can irritate the skin and eyes, while a chlorine-free pond is gentler on both.
No chlorine smell in your hair afterward, either.
We design recreation ponds to sit in the mid-70s to low-80s, and in our climate, they often reach that on sunlight and ambient air alone.
Underfoot, it is flagstone, with stone treads at the entry and benches you can sit on with the water at chest height.
The pavilion floor overhangs the water by three feet, so you can sit at the edge with your legs over the pond.

How Sloped Entries, Gradual Depth, and Moving Water Shape the Design
They decide where you can walk, where you can stand, where you can actually swim, and where the water has to keep moving to stay clean.
Every one of those is settled on paper before excavation.
Entry comes first, because a pond you have to climb into is a pond nobody uses.
We build gently sloping entry points with flagstone steps for footing, and the standard build includes six natural stone treads, so the walk to swimming depth is a walk rather than a drop.
Then the swimming zone is defined, which, on a standard build, means 4 feet of depth maintained across a 25-by-25 area.
Moving water is the part people read as decoration. It’s not.
The 2-foot cascading waterfall and 6-foot stream are performing filtration, pushing water through the wetland filter and oxygenating it, while larger builds add multi-tiered waterfalls that do the same.
On the Alamo pond, hand-stacked natural rock walls hold the surrounding soil, and a flagstone bridge crosses the waterfall.
Why a Recreation Pond Can Be Both Natural and Safe to Swim In
Because the biology is contained and the swimming area is designed as such, not left to chance, the way a lake is.
The filter is a separate 4-by-8 wetland unit.
Bacteria, plants, and gravel are cleaning that water while it circulates continuously instead of stagnating, which is the actual difference between a swim pond and a pond you would not put a foot in.
Safety gets built in as hardware, not as a warning sign.
Gently sloping entries, flagstone steps for grip, defined swimming zones, and underwater seating ledges are all standard, and ten underwater LED lights plus three spotlights mean you can see the pond after dark.
